About the Postgraduate Certificate in Education International (PGCEi)

    Program Highlights

There is an increasing need for high-quality, innovative teacher education on a global scale. The Postgraduate Certificate in Education International offered at Westford in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church (CCCU), UK, aims to meet the demand for quality, postgraduate qualifications for existing graduate teachers in primary, secondary and further education.

This program enables teachers to engage in academic rigour, comprehensive understanding of concepts, and develop higher-level skills considering a PGCE in a global setting. For learners already working in schools or colleges; this program would allow them to expand their knowledge and understanding of policy and practice in real-world settings via critical study. The PGCEi program, through the systematic application of appropriate aspects of pedagogy to professional practice, deepens the learners understanding concerning local, national and international policy and curriculum design. Learners will be encouraged to develop a critical awareness of assumptions and how policy is interpreted in practice. Informed by research into the underlying values, principles and philosophies of education, learners will be encouraged to articulate their own professional identity and ideology as a teacher.

Learners will be familiarised with a range of strategies and techniques from the social sciences which will enable them to make sound judgements based on a wide range of conceptualisations of ‘effective teaching and learning’, including key local, national and international perspectives, curricula guidance, requirements and policies. As a progression, learners will demonstrate originality and autonomy as reflective practitioners, to consistently and routinely reflect upon themselves, their own practice and professional development, to identify appropriate developmental targets through the completion of literature reviews and research tasks, and sufficient flexibility in their assignments, backed up by personalised approaches to teaching, to develop their original arguments and approaches.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education International (PGCEi) is completed in eight months through three modules of online live lectures and onsite workshops.

      Module Name Credits

This module provides students with a thorough grasp of the fundamental issues that impact educational policy and practice. Learners will get the opportunity to investigate the link between education, community, and society in depth. They will investigate various learning theories and philosophies of education as they form their own identities as instructors. In all learning contexts, there will be an emphasis on inclusiveness, educational principles and ethos, and equality of opportunity.

This module provides students with a comprehensive grasp of a variety of pedagogical factors in the disciplines and phases in which they are preparing to teach.  The program will help students understand tactics for promoting learning in their classrooms as well as theoretical views that will allow them to effectively analyse these strategies. This module will stimulate creative and innovative approaches to practice by analysing and critiquing current research, reports, and inspection evidence about the principles underlying effective practice, technology-enhanced learning, 21st Century skills, differentiation, and inclusive pedagogical approaches for teaching subjects.

This module enables learners to deepen their understanding of a specific aspect of education, investigate it from theoretical and applied perspectives, and thus develop their ability to engage critically and independently with policy, theory, and practice in education.  Primary and secondary students’ module concentration may include specific topics, merged curricular areas, larger elements of learning, curriculum, or professional development as directed by the school.  Furthermore, the goals are to acquire a systematic and conceptual understanding of ways to practitioner-led or action research, as well as to apply this knowledge in the execution of their investigation.
